If you already have private health insurance, but you are not satisfied with your insurance company and want to change it, but are afraid that you will have to wait for the waiting period again when switching - I have great news for you! You can switch from another insurance company to DKV, and your insurance period (waiting period) will be preserved. The only exception is childbirth.
Switching insurance companies may seem complicated, but it's a simple process if you follow these three important steps. 👇
Step 1
An insurance contract in Spain is always concluded for 1 year, and most companies start counting from January 1. Therefore, if you have such a contract and you have been planning to change your insurance company for a long time, now is the time to do it. But there is another option - your contract can be valid from the date of the policy for exactly one year, for example, from 02.03.2024 to 02.03.2025. Therefore, first you need to review your current contract to understand when exactly you can change your insurance company, because the automatic extension of the policy always occurs without your participation.
Step 2
Terminate the contract with the current company
To do this:
• Check the terms: Read your contract to find out the exact cancellation deadlines. Usually you need to notify the company 1-2 months before the end of the insurance year.
• Write a statement: Officially notify the company of your intention to terminate the contract.
Step 3
Sign a contract with DKV.
IMPORTANTLY! A new insurance policy must be issued from the moment the previous one is canceled in order to preserve your insurance period (cancellation period).
Here's what you need to do:
• Choose the right policy: I will help you choose the policy that best suits your needs.
• Fill out the questionnaire: To sign a new contract, you need to fill out a questionnaire, in which you should indicate all the necessary information about your health and previous insurance policies.
• Sign the contract: After filling out the application form, carefully read all the terms of the new contract. When signing it, make sure that your new policy will take effect immediately after the old one expires, without a single day of interruption.
